Hearing aids

A hearing aid fitted to your hearing.

A hearing aid is chosen after a hearing test, programmed in the clinic and adjusted over time, based on what you hear and feel.

01Styles

Three styles, one purpose.

Hearing aids differ mainly in where they sit. Here we explain them in general; which models are available we show you in the clinic.

  • Receiver in canal (RIC)

The small body of the hearing aid sits behind the ear, while the receiver (the speaker) goes into the ear canal through a thin wire. It is light and hardly visible.

  • Behind the ear (BTE)

The whole hearing aid sits behind the ear and the sound reaches the ear through a tube and a mould or dome. It is sturdy and easy to use.

  • In the ear (ITE)

The hearing aid is made to the shape of your ear and sits inside it, with no part behind the ear.

The style that suits you depends on your hearing, the shape of your ear, how easily you handle small objects and your own preferences. We choose it together after the test.

02Fitting

How fitting works.

An audiogram shows how well you hear at different frequencies. The hearing aid's programming is built on it.

  1. 01

    Hearing test

We measure the hearing in each ear and record the result on an audiogram.

  2. 02

    Choosing

We talk about the result, the style of hearing aid and the situations where you find hearing hardest.

  3. 03

    Programming

We connect the hearing aid to the computer and program it to your audiogram, while you tell us how you hear.

  4. 04

    Adjustments

The ear and the brain need time to get used to new sounds. At follow-up visits we adjust the hearing aid based on your experience.

Did you know?

20,000 Hz

The human ear hears sounds from roughly 20 to 20,000 Hz. Over the years, hearing for high-pitched sounds usually weakens first.

03Care

Everyday care.

A little care each day keeps the hearing aid clean and reliable. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions as well.

Every day

  • Wipe the hearing aid with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Keep it away from water, steam and heat, including when you shower or use a hair dryer.
  • When you are not using it, keep it in its case.
  • Keep it away from small children and pets.

Batteries

  • With standard batteries, remove the sticker and wait about a minute before putting the battery in.
  • At night, open the battery door so the hearing aid switches off and moisture can escape.
  • Put hearing aids with rechargeable batteries in the charger every night.
  • Keep used batteries away from children and dispose of them according to the waste rules.

When to contact us

  • When the sound gets weaker, crackles or cuts out.
  • When the hearing aid causes pain or irritation in your ear.
  • When you feel that your hearing has changed.
